This is what some of your table scraps could look like next spring. Compost 😍 #sustainable living at its finest. 👇 Want to know how to start a compost pile?

🌱 Pick a spot to compost (We recommend a compost bin with a lid)
🌱 Create a bed of twigs & grass clippings or leaves at the bottom of your pile
🌱 Start collecting your kitchen scraps in a bowl that you keep in the fridge - tops of veggies & fruits, egg shells, coffee grounds, tea bags, & any cooked food without meat, dairy, & oil
🌱 Layer kitchen scraps with grass clippings (nitrogen source) & items like shredded paper, saw dust, & 100% cotton fabrics (carbon source)
🌱 Shoot for MORE carbon
🌱 If you compost in a bin with a lid, allow rain to hit your compost every so often
🌱 Send the kids out to grab some worms to help with breakdown
🌱 Soon you’ll have beautiful compost for your garden

This spot is one of our kid’s favorite activities for both rainy & sunny days. What we enjoy: we’ll hit the play area, ride bikes on the beautiful (paved) trail, indulge in a picnic lunch, & then wander through the Environmental Discovery Center with our scavenger hunt (grab your clipboard next to the help desk) in hand.

4.5 ⭐️ / 5 ⭐️ for accessibility! This Metropark offers a paved trail for those using assisted devices & prefer an even terrain, accessible parking spots, & the Environmental Discovery Center has an elevator for access to all floors. The playground is not totally accessible, though the trail is paved to the play area & there is a paved sidewalk through the play area.

📍 Kensington Metropark Nature Center in Milford, Michigan. All it takes is one visit and you’ll join the crazy bird lady club.

😎 Kensington Metropark is one of our favorite & budget friendly places to visit on a sunny day. We grab an annual pass every year for $40 (price is for select county residents & is $45 if you live outside those counties). Plus it gets you into 13 @mimetroparks so to us it’s worth that upfront annual pass cost because once you spend that $40/$45, mom math tells us it’s a free activity to do with the family!

📌PRO TIP: If you don’t think you’ll put an annual pass to good use OR you’re a first time visitor & want to check it out before you buy, we recommend utilizing the Michigan Activity Pass (available through your library) for a free daily vehicle pass that allows you access to the entire park for FREE.

⭐️ Nature center accessibility: There is a paved section of trail from the parking lot to the area near the nature center for those looking for wheelchair accessibility. The benches near this area make a great spot for those looking to feed the birds without traveling too far. The rest of the trails are dirt and the terrain changes depending on the weather. On a dry, sunny day they are pretty solid for those using wheelchairs or other devices. There are plenty of accessible parking spots & 1 accessible restroom inside the nature center. Overall 4.5/5 ⭐️ for accessibility due to some unpaved trails.

Mary Claire, author of History in the Making, spoiled us with her presence & book club chat. We’re all swooning over her debut novel.

Lunch at @prostwinebar was PERFECT. The atmosphere in their private dining room was 💯, the food was delicious, & our service from Nick was lovely. 👀 the special gift we left for Nick’s mom since his book genre of choice isn’t the historical romance type.
